Nola Esselaar

Nola Esselaar graduated with a BA in 1995 and an LLB in 1997, from the University of Natal. She completed her articles at Lindsay & Lindsay Attorneys in Durban, receiving exposure to matrimonial matters, general litigation, Road Accident Fund issues, personal injury claims, criminal cases and commercial matters.

Nola was admitted as an attorney in 2000 and joined the oldest law firm in the country, Goodrickes Attorneys, where she practised general litigation and became a partner after two years. She managed a busy litigation practice including conducting court appearances, liaising with Counsel in High Court matters, drafting agreements, providing opinions, managing the human resources department and office administrative functions.

In 2007 she joined Indium Corporate Consulting (Pty) Ltd as a director and provided assistance to businesses which included advice on credit applications, the New National Credit Act, CIPRO compliance, general legal compliance, drafting agreements, employment issues, debt collection, negotiations and agreements surrounding the sale of shares or businesses, setting up companies or close corporations.

Nola joined Jacobs Capital (Pty) Ltd, a private equity company, in 2008 as a director managing all litigation and legal aspects within the group, which comprised of an excess of twenty companies. She provided legal advice on all facets of operations from the structuring of acquisitions to corporate governance to human resource issues to legal compliance with legislation, to debt collecting to personal matters. She has been actively involved in the management of businesses, the development of processes for improvements, projects, mergers and acquisitions as well as controlled liquidations and the training relating to all parts of a business including Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, Emotional Intelligence and ISO compliance.

Nola has, since the beginning of 2019, been consulting which requires expertise relating to legal matters on acquisitions, business rescue and operations – from agreement structuring through to industrial relations, human resources and legal compliance. Her business experience and acumen in terms of offering guidance relating to risk assessments, business strategy and operational management has assisted entities in effectively reshaping and transforming various businesses. She has also assisted various entities in coping with the housekeeping that is inevitable with growth from setting up boards of directors with levels of authority and key performance areas, to ensuring legal compliance, updated documentation and the ancillary training.

Nola has extensive experience in providing legal advice and managing enterprises. Having been a practising attorney as well as a managing director in a variety of business sectors as well as having served as a director or committee chairperson on more ten boards, Nola has invaluable practical experience in a variety of spheres.
